Rules
The OfficialCityPrepSpellingBee utilizes the rules of The Scripps
National Spelling Bee with some exceptions (i.e. date, eligibility, and class
requirements). Please contact OfficialCityPrep, Inc. for all spelling bee rules
and exceptions. The bee will occur at Wayne State
University's Community Arts Auditorium, 450 Reuther Mall, Detroit, MI 48202.
Elimination Round:
Friday, May 21, 2010 4pm-7pm
Spell
Down: Saturday, May 22, 2010 12pm-4pm
Eligible participants for the OfficialCityPrepSpellingBee are students in
Wayne, Oakland, Macomb Counties* enrolled in grades 1st thru 8th .
There are 3 classes of competition: team and individual.
Class I. Team competition** is only available for students in grades 1-3.
The winning team will receive $300; each team member will receive a $100 bill.
(Please note that teams can consist of any combination of grades, all third
graders, or a combination of all three grades)
Boys and girls in Grades 1-3 can only compete on teams of three.
Class II.
Individual competition* is open
to students in grades 4-5. A cash prize of $200 will be awarded to the winner
Class III. Individual competition* for students in grades 6-8. The winner in this class will receive a labtop computer.
No student over the age of 16 in the 8th grade can participate.
*All
applicants must provide a report card as grade verification from an accredited
public, private, parochial or charter school within Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb
counties.
